The Twelfth Iberian Congress of African Studies (CIEA), organized by the Study Group on Culture and Domination – Study Group on African Societies (GECID-GESA), took place on January 29, 30, and 31, 2025, at the University of Barcelona under the theme African responses to the decolonial dilemma.
Since its first edition in 1991, the CIEA has woven a dynamic Iberian network, bringing together researchers working in five languages—Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, English, and French. It is closely connected to other major transnational networks in African studies such as AEGIS1. At the same time, CIEA has developed a distinct approach, focusing more specifically on the Iberian sphere and its colonial history.
